Under the spotlight – The Ben Casey, Pharmacist Jacket

If you didn’t know, the name of this jacket has been around since the early 60’s. Derived from an American TV series Ben Casey (1961-1966) and based around the good doctor of the same name. It was then referenced by Australians ever since for the professional jackets worn by doctors, dentists, and pharmacists. There was even a doll made – aptly called Ben Casey!

The traditional pharmacist jacket or The Ben Casey as it’s now widely known as, has been somewhat upgraded over the past 60 years – the professional look remains however much has evolved with styling, shape and fabrication enhancements. Gone are the high-rise necklines that choked the wearer (not great for consulting), as did the stiff-as-a-board fabric that would never remove the ink marks from the pockets! The Ben Casey 331 is a high quality Lustaline, made with 65% Polyester 35% Viscose – a durable, poly/viscose fabric – the ultimate in comfort. Incorporating the advanced technology of Teflon EcoElite™ fabric protector for long lasting quality and durability. This finish is the first renewably sourced, non-fluorinated fabric treatment for durable water repellence and is manufactured with 60% renewably sourced raw materials. With antibacterial properties for hygiene protection that meets the highest quality standards in the Industry, it is machine washable and can line dry with a warm iron for easy wear & care.

Muhan Corporate has designed both male and female versions of the Ben Casey 331. The Ladies range is available in either short or ¾ sleeves, with a fitted version also introduced in a short sleeve length. A short and long-sleeved version is offered for Men. The Ben Casey range has seen sustained growth over the past 31 years – largely due to the localised design team who can respond to client feedback, and initiate continued improvements based on fabric and styling innovations.
