PCCA’s Exclusive, Quality Products: They’re Just Another Benefit of Membership

Compounding pharmacies make a difference for patients, and as the industry’s most comprehensive resource, PCCA makes a difference for compounding pharmacies.

We offer our members a lot, and access to exclusive, quality products is just one of the many benefits of membership. Our Research and Development Team is dedicated to developing innovative products that translate to rich rewards for your practice and patients. Here’s a brief introduction to the three PCCA exclusive bases we launched in 2016:

PCCA RheoSpray™ is the first of its kind in the compounding industry. A sprayable topical gel base, it maximises treatment options while offering the ultimate in convenience for the patient. When paired with the new PCCA Plastic Spray Tube, RheoSpray-based compounds are portable, discreet and efficient ways to topically deliver prescribed medications.

Because of its unique physical properties, RheoSpray reacts to the sheer force exerted when the Plastic Spray Tube is pumped, becoming sprayable. When the compounded medication contacts the skin, the force is removed and it reverts to its original, more viscous gel state, adhering to the site of application.

Combining the convenience of a topical spray with the effectiveness of a topical gel, RheoSpray creates new and innovative possibilities in the world of customised medication.

Benefits

  • Innovative spray technology: RheoSpray’s unique properties give it the advantages of a topical gel and a topical spray, all in one base.
  • Formulation options: It can allow insoluble active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) to be suspended and sprayed.
  • Convenience of a spray: It allows patients to apply topical compounds to hard-to-reach areas as well as areas where anything more than a gentle touch may be too painful.
  • Versatility: It can be used topically and in wound care for both human and veterinary patients, as it contains a natural preservative system.
  • Easy handling: It dries quickly without being greasy or sticky.

PCCA ZoSil™ is the compounding industry’s first topical gel base, developed specifically for use in veterinary compounding. This exclusive silicone hydrogel base is designed to topically deliver APIs to animal skin.

ZoSil is rich in fatty acids such as omega 3, omega 6 and conjugated linoleic acid, making it the ideal compounding base for adding APIs for any dermatologic formulations and wound care. Examples of common APIs used topically for various skin conditions are antibiotics, antifungals, anti-inflammatories, anesthetics, antiseptics and mast-cell stabilisers. Furthermore, ZoSil’s proprietary Smart Diffusion Technology™ possesses a unique fatty-acid releasing mechanism to provide moisturisation and help improve the appearance of red, flaky and irritated skin.

Benefits

  • Optimal topical delivery for animals: ZoSil was developed specifically for animal skin, which is different than that of humans.
  • Easy to use: It absorbs rapidly into animal skin, leaving no greasy residue.
  • Skin-friendly: Its Smart Diffusion Technology uses a unique fatty-acid releasing mechanism, which provides moisturisation to help improve the appearance of red, flaky, irritated skin.
  • Fur-friendly: Its natural ingredients include conditioners to promote healthy, shiny fur without matting or gumming.

PCCA’s RDT-Plus™ is the next step in compounding rapid dissolve tablets. It offers all of the traditional advantages of RDTs with substantial refinements that can streamline the compounding process and enhance patient experience.

RDTs are an innovative, versatile dosage form. They are anhydrous, providing extended stability, and can allow compounders to incorporate drugs that are not stable in aqueous liquid form. They can be taken orally or held in the mouth for buccal/sublingual absorption without the need for water, and they dissolve quickly. Therefore, RDTs can be the perfect solution for patients with otherwise limited treatment options.

RDT-Plus offers these characteristics while making RDTs easy to make for the compounder, and easy to take for the patient.

Benefits

  • Short baking time: Compounders can bake tablets with RDT-Plus for just 15 minutes at 110° C.
  • Low baking-temperature option: Compounders also have the option of baking tablets with RDT-Plus for 30 minutes at 80° C for heat-sensitive APIs.
  • Sugar-free: It is formulated without sugar and artificial sweeteners, alleviating certain dietary concerns.
  • Easy to use: Its flow characteristics mean that it’s easy to work with, even with static-prone APIs such as progesterone.
  • Durable finished preparation: Its physical properties ensure that the finished RDTs are durable, with minimal chipping, crumbling and breaking, but still dissolve quickly.
  • Versatility: It can allow for compounding medications that are unstable in aqueous liquid form.
  • Great patient experience: It offers patients a customisable, portable and easy-to-take option for medications along with extended stability.
