Hospital pharmacist recognised for work

Cairns hospital pharmacist Kristoffer (Kris) Johnstone

A Cairns Hospital pharmacist has been recognised as the top hospital pharmacist in Queensland.

Kristoffer (Kris) Johnstone is the team leader of the oncology pharmacy at the Liz Plummer Cancer Care Centre and for his dedication and achievement in pharmacy practice, recently received the William Harris Achievement Award from the Society of Hospital Pharmacists of Australia.

Kris is committed to excellence in his practice and it was due to this commitment and passion that he was honoured with the award.

“Respected for his research in cancer care, Kris is pursuing a research degree to investigate barriers to cancer patients receiving vaccinations, and is part of various other research projects in this area,” a society spokesperson said.

“Through his team leader position and leadership in various other committees, he actively educates, mentors and shares his expertise in the field.”

Kris was nominated for the award by his peers and said it was a pleasant surprise.

“The Liz Plummer Cancer Care team is absolutely brilliant,” he said.

“As a pharmacist, it’s heavily drug-involved, and we love to be the drug specialists.

“This is a massive dynamic space that is changing on a weekly basis, that we need to make sure we are keeping our skills up and learning all the time – that challenges you, and it’s an enjoyable part of the role as well.

“I really enjoy passing on my knowledge and training to the other team members and seeing them succeed.”
