Guild Proposals Lay Foundation For Future Of Pharmacy

In the submission in response to the Review of Pharmacy Remuneration and Regulation Discussion Paper, the Pharmacy Guild has stressed that community pharmacies need to position themselves so they can play a central role in an integrated primary healthcare environment, sooner rather than later.
Their main contribution in this integrated environment will be as medicines experts, as it is increasingly recognised that medicines adherence and medication management are critically important in a coordinated and holistic approach to delivering patient health outcomes.
The need for greater integration will be accelerated by specialised and high-cost medicines, the administration and management of which will require increased collaboration, a more individualised patient-centred approach and a demand from funders for the highest levels of adherence.
The Guild has put forward a range of proposals and recommendations covering areas such as the pharmacist workforce, the need to recognise the role of pharmacists as primary healthcare providers, and the role of data in helping to improve the health of the of the community.
