Guild commits to closing the gap through Reconciliation Action Plan

The Pharmacy Guild of Australia, Queensland Branch has developed and received endorsement from Reconciliation Australia for the Guild’s first Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP).

Queensland Guild President Professor Trent Twomey said that the RAP is a commitment to support the national reconciliation movement.

“Nine pharmacies in Queensland supply PBS medicines via the Remote Area Aboriginal Health Services (RAAHS) Program under Section 100 of the National Health Act 1953.

“There are 1128 community pharmacies in Queensland which are a vital part of our health system, and have the potential to make an even bigger contribution to the health of all Queenslanders.

“Our Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan provides a pathway to improve the ways in which we connect, recognize and provide positive health outcomes to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People,” Professor Twomey said.

Professor Twomey added that the Reconciliation Action Plan will have a positive impact on other areas of The Pharmacy Guild of Australia, members and their staff and communities.

“Our Reconciliation Action Plan will support the wider community, by developing closer relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People and organisations; and where possible assist in the delivery of better health outcomes, by investigating opportunities to work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People or organisations to improve the services we provide.

“Although we are at the very beginning of our journey we look forward to sharing our learnings and working together with the wider Pharmacy Guild of Australia and our members to implement our RAP,” Professor Twomey said.
