Canadian Pharmacy Chief to Headline APP2016
APP2016 will explore the key issue of expanded scope of practice for pharmacists and their role in primary health care. There is no better advocate on the world stage for this topic than Carlo Berardi – Pharmacist and Chair of the Canadian Pharmacists Association (CPhA).
APP Chairman, Kos Sclavos said that Mr Berardi is one of the many, respected international speakers to headline APP2016.
“Carlo is a great advocate for pharmacy and has helped shape significant change in Canada. We are thrilled to have Carlo as a keynote speaker at APP2016 to highlight his goal as CPhA Chair to advance the health and wellbeing of consumers through excellence in pharmacist care.
“As the Minister for Health, The Hon Sussan Ley MP recently released the primary health care reform discussion paper, ‘Better outcomes for people living with Chronic and Complex Health Conditions through Primary Health Care’; I believe there are a number of key lessons for Australia to learn from Carlo’s work, as we strive to build a health system that utilises the vast array of pharmacists’ skills.
“Canadian pharmacists have indeed been at the forefront of expanded and remunerated professional pharmacy programs that assist patients with chronic therapy conditions. In particular, the Canadian province of Ontario, has implemented many innovative professional pharmacy programs inspired by the work of Carlo Berardi,” Mr Sclavos said.
Mr Sclavos added that APP2016 will provide ‘the best of the best’ in terms of clinical, business, trade and industry knowledge.
“At a time of many changes in the Australian health system, the pharmacy professional must be ready to grasp new opportunities as they arise. Knowing which opportunities to grasp begins with knowing what has been implemented successfully elsewhere in the world.
“I am certain APP2016 delegates will enjoy listening to Carlo’s insights and I encourage all levels of pharmacists to attend the conference,” Mr Sclavos said.
Carlo Berardi was elected Chair of CPhA in 2015. He has been on the Ontario Pharmacists Association board since 2007, serving as Chair in 2013-2014. Additionally, as the pharmacist-owner of Nickel Centre Pharmacy for 23 years, he is an active and respected member of his community. Carlo holds a pharmacy degree from the University of Toronto and an MBA from the University of Western Ontario.
APP2016 will be held from 17-20 March at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre. The conference will feature an exciting line-up of over 70 international and Australian speakers, covering topics from cutting edge industry issues and clinical updates to finance and business management.
